YTS had another successful weekend. Thanks to the coaches for their flexibility, we had quite a few scheduling conflicts this weekend and fortunately were able to make sure every YTS game was covered. Below are the write ups. They will be updated as more come in...
Madrid-Coach Kelly Miller
It has been a long winter and the girls were more than ready to play in spring match. The Madrid girls took on CASL's Barcelona. The beginning of the game started out with some back and forth play between the two teams, but Madrid was able to take control of the game by stringing together passes in the midfield and in the defensive third. Ava Whitlark scored a few goals by following up the ball on many attempted shots. Paige Morrison did an excellent job of taking on defenders in a 1v1 situation to help create goal scoring opportunities for her teammates. Brooke Hennesey did an amazing job as a goalkeeper this weekend and made some tremendous saves!
Olivia Mason and Sammy Francis both did a great job at forward as well.
Although the result of the game may have been dissapointing for the girls, they worked hard and had a lot of fun!
Galaxy-Coach Mandy Moraca
On Sunday afternoon at 2:30 the weather was perfect for a soccer game!
Galaxy was pumped and ready to play the Fire! The girls seemed very excited to play and even commented by saying “It’s a perfect day out to play soccer!” Since I had been away for a few weeks, this was my first time back with the girls, and I was
excited to see them play and what they have learned from other coaches
since I had been away. The Galaxy played very well together and looked like they really enjoyed themselves. I saw passion and excitement on their faces when
facing the Fire. Galaxy’s first goal of the game came from a foul in
the box by the Fire. Galaxy put away the penalty kick and scored a
great goal. Galaxy had a few breakdowns defensively and the Fire came
back and scored 2 great goals. In the middle of the second half the
Galaxy came back and scored to tie the game at 2! Unfortunately, the Galaxy had a minor breakdown and was scored on in the very last minutes of the game. Both teams played very well, the match was a very entertaining, and was a great experience for everyone!
U9 Barcelona Girls
The Barcelona Girls got off to a great start penetrating the final third often creating many good shots on goal. Goalkeeping by the Madrid keeper proved to be unpassable early on. The Madrid Girls were clever in the passing through the midfield creating several good chance of their own eventually putting us down 3-0. Barca worked their way back late in the first half with a far post finish just beating the keeper. The game plan for the second half was to continue doing all the good things we had in the first half and trust the goals would start to come. The girls continued their pressure and attacking forcing Madrid to defend often in their own half. The girls continued to fire shots and follow-up rebounds eventually netting 3 second half goals meanwhile shutting the door on their goal defensively. Both teams played great and it was a very intertaining match to be a part. The final score of 4-3 truely reflects the battle that these girls fought. Well done Madrid and Barcelona!
U10 Fire Girls-Coach Tommy Retzlaff
The Galaxy showed tremendous confidence in their team by pressuring the Fire girls and attacking aggressively by quickly getting balls in to dangerous areas. At the 5th minute Hannah A beat 3 defenders before being taken down in the box resulting in a penalty. A world class finish puts us down 1-0. They continued to put us under pressure which took several adjustments to sort out. Thanks to good midfield play by Brianna and Kaitlyn we were able to create some attacks but defending was still strong. Finally a great 25 yard diagonal pass from Kendall to Grace on the weak-side finds us in front of the net with only the keeper to beat and calmly Grace nets the goal. The Fire girls were ready to battle and compete for the second before halftime. Kendall made a great dribbling run down the right side and was taken down just ahead of reaching the final 3rd. Kendall nets an amazing free kick from the touch line like a rocket in the far corner giving the Fire the lead heading into halftime. The Galaxy came back out strong in the second half and the game was wide open with both teams finding chances at goal. The Galaxy eventually draw the game even. The Fire continued to attack the Galaxy goal with a purpose. A late attack down the left side by Eliah eventually found her free, but on her weaker left foot. She hits a perfect low shot with her left foot just inside the far the post netting the Fire a winner. This game was highly contested as it should be in an intra-club shootout. Congratulations to the Fire and also to the Galaxy as this game could have gone either way. Good job girls!!
Crew-Molly Skinner
Hey! The crew played really well, a lot of good soccer. They won 11-0. We started putting heavy restrictions on after 7-0 to deter scoring but the girls toppled touch restrictions, set number of passes and shooting only with their opposite foot to put up 4 more goals. Mia did a great job spreading the field, sydney excelled in playing the ball out of the back and finding forwards feel. Carter showcased her vision and tenacity against her old team. We look forward to a great week of training to prepare for our inter-club game next weekend.
Chelsea-Coach Andy Truex
On Sunday at el stadium Fairway at WRAL YTS Chelsea took on Triangle United Man City. The first half started out with a fever pitch of attacking soccer. Both teams began battling back and fourth for the upper hand in the game. Then with a great run by Matthew Sloan to break open the Man City back line a notch the games opening goal. Man City made some change to a more attacking line but great play by Andrew Rosetti in goal and Ben Noga in back helped slow Man City’s attack. Chelsea went into the half with the lead with two more goals by Chelsea.
Second half start about the same as the first with both team push the pace of the game. Man City finally found the back of the net to make the score line 3-1, but the attacking speed of Joshua Bratager and Lucas Archimede Helped to put Man City back on their heels. Toward the late part on the half City made a large push forward but great defense efforts by Nicholas Eichorn and Raiden Mason helped push the Chelsea team through to victory.
AC Milan-Coach Andy Truex
With the late day sun falling in the distance the 99 AC Milan took on the East Wake Revolution at the WRAL Soccer Center. The game started with sleek and searching style of soccer. With each team holding back its attacking mentality waiting for the right moment to push forward. East Wake found the back of the net with a long ball over the top to a cutting forward. Then with a masterful by Elliot Gulliet to split the defense, he found the back on the net tying the game. With action back and forth and goals exchanged like baseball card between kids. The match finishes at half a 3-3tie. The second half began with a defensive check for each team. With hard tackles, blocked shot, and great saves pushed each team to the edge. Chandler Cree personally making amazing save after save to hold the Revolution at bay. The three back of Tyler Downing, Tommy Lewis, and Connor Hoke showed hard nosed mentality fighting for every ball and mark in the match. However East Wake found the back of the net with a free kick to finish the battle between both squads. The match ended in a heart breaker for AC Milan team. Much like the Champion league game for the Milan Senior team earlier that week.
Juventus-Eric Bratager
U10 Juventus vs TUSA Sevilla was a high scoring affair which saw five or six different players score for Juventus. The boys jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead behind some great passing and goals to take control of the match early and would be a theme throughout as the boys created chances with some great skill and passing. TUSA would battle back a number of times to cut the margin to a single goal, but Juventus would pull away for a comfortable win in the end.
Everton-Coach Eric Bratager
In the U9 Everton vs TUSA Birmingham game, Everton would create a lot of chances early but had trouble converting and clung to a 2-1 halftime lead behind Daniel Wu and John White goals. In the second half Everton would get another goal to go up 3-1. There were a couple of anxious moments in the second half as Birmingham were awarded two penalties. However, they would fail to convert on either as Aidan Whitlock came up huge in goal making a brilliant save on one of the attempts. Birmingham would get a goal off a corner kick scramble in the box, but Daniel Wu's second goal of the game would extend the lead and Turner Murray closed out the scoring with a nice long range effort over the keeper's head for a final score of 5-2. Defensively, Ethan Armour, Jalen Duran, and Jake Steinberg all played well limiting Birmingham's chances.
